How do I transfer my Library from Papers 3 to the new ReadCube Papers?

Easily migrate your Papers 3 library into ReadCube Papers while retaining all of your annotations and organization from your current Papers 3 library. You can view our video tutorial or our step by step guide.

First, please check to make sure that you are running Papers 3 for Mac 3.4.23 (581) or later. If you aren't, click on the "Check for Updates" option in the top menu.

Second, download and launch the uploader here.

Third, If you don't already have a ReadCube Papers account you will have the opportunity to create one or log in if you already have an account. Please note that you won't be able to just sign in using your Papers 3 credentials, you will need to set up a new account.

Lastly, select the "Import My Papers Library" and the uploader will automatically find your Papers 3 library and copy it into the new app.

Once you're finished, you can go the web, desktop or mobile apps to access your newly imported library along with your collections, notes, tags etc.

A few troubleshooting tips:

  • If you hit an error or see that all of your papers didn't come over, try re-running the importer a couple of times. Don't worry - you won't get a sea of duplicates.
  • If you have a large library and your library went to sleep - your import likely stalled when it went to sleep. Please rerun the importer and ensure Sleep Mode is shut off. You can follow these directions: Set sleep and wake times for your Mac

If you have tried the steps above and you still haven't been able to fully transfer your Papers 3 library over, you can upload your library for one of our team members to review via this form.
