margin notes

This request incorporates a few ideas.  Currently, one can only view one note at a time, and that note covers nearby text while you are looking at it.  I would prefer notes (i) written in the margin, so as to not cover the text; (ii) that remain open until explicitly closed.  A bonus would be control over font size, so that one could write as much text as desired in the available space.
