While SmartCite does not support footnotes at this time (only endnotes are supported - ie. inline citations and bibliography/reference list at end of document).
Not to fear - you can still make quick work of entering footnotes with the help of the Papers web or desktop app.
You will want to use Word's footnote option and copy the formatted reference from the right panel of your library in whatever style you need.
To generate a full reference list, you can select the papers you need and click Copy > Formatted References
